I think the showcasing is a great idea. A lot of people do not understand the rationale behind the design of different lenses. I would be happy to participate and be interviewed.
I could discuss my Top 100 lens or others that I have been creating lately. Thanks a lot for your great training material and Squidoo Queen which I purchased some time ago. I have joined the “envy crew” – what a great blog – it encourages quality interaction.

this is a great idea, one thing that i’ve noticed is that
all the gurus assume that everyone reading there information
knows exactly what they are talking about.
I have not seen anyone do something for the absolute
beginner, for instance I ‘am having a real problem with
adding affiliate links to my Squidoo lens i have searched
every where , I know how put the code in my lens
but that shows up just the way that i put in in???
my point being is a tutorial showing how to, and if this
happens you do this or that.

Thank you for all the comments they have really given me some extra ideas. Not only have people been leaving comments here but the emails came in thick and fast yesterday too, so thank you to everyone who took the time to leave messages.

I’ve got a lot of plans for the site that I will share later with you, but for now I’m just trying to get all the basics in place.

Brilliant idea Kelly! Perhaps need to think a bit about the categories of lenses. A really good affiliate marketing lens is going to be judged on slightly different criteria to a really good lens intended only to inform about a subject?

I like the idea.

English is not my native tongue, and I suppose there are many around like me. It would be useful for us to have some comments about the style of the texts, included in the analysis. This might help to become more conscious about one’s own writing style. E.g. the text may be US/UK slang, youth language, technical, formal, etc.

Great idea (the simplest ideas do seem to be genius ideas)!

I think Dennis’s timeline is too long.. I’m thinking more of 1 week between lens deconstruction and lensmaster interview which would lead to this sort of line:
Week 1 – Lens #1 deconstruction
Week 2 – Lensmaster #1 interview – Lens #2 deconstruction
Week 3 – Lensmaster #2 interview – Lens#3 deconstruction
etc.
etc.

By the way, how do you intend to do the interviews? Webinar, Skype, or just an emailed Q&A?
What happens if the lensmaster declines the interview (slightly silly of him/her if they do) or is not available or is not involved with Squidoo now?

Thanks for your comment Bob, I think that this would be perfect for people who want to nominate their own lenses too – so stay tuned to see how this progresses.

@ Dennis

I agree with the time frame, I think you meant two weekly changes. Great idea about the winner and runners up – certainly something worth thinking about.

The section on the ‘hows and whys’ I think would best be addressed in the creators interview – they would be best placed to let us in on any sneaky little tricks they know etc.

Hi Kelly: It is a great idea!

Here are my thoughts, suggestions, etc.
The time-period should be more than a week and less than a month – how about bi-monthly?
In terms of quantity, how about one “winner” and 3 or 4 or maybe 5 follow-ups?

I see lots of value with the slant of an educational/training venue – by that I mean going thru the lens and point out all of the things that make standout. Why is it so exceptional? In some cases it would be worthwhile to point out how or why was it successful. Did it get high rankings in Google? Did people read it and how many, etc. Was there a call to action and did people respond in anyway, etc. etc. etc.

Anyone writing Lenses, whether just starting or those with hundreds of Lenses, would benefit – because everyone wants to get better at it, and this forum would most definitely help.

I like the idea and wonder why no one ever thought of it before. I have a number of sites on Squidoo and one in particular that gets decent traffic and have tried a few times to nominate it as Lens of the Week. No success.

This idea you have is perfect for the Squidoo crowd.
