One of my bad habits is to go wondering into forums … Normally I would say that this is a good thing – there is LOTS of valuable information within these forums. My problem is I start reading and posting and the next thing I know an hour or more has passed and I have missed out on a lot of work.
There are always lots of posts in these forums with the author declaring that they can’t make any money online and they are quitting. Some of them do make me laugh (I know I shouldn’t) but you see them making these statements and then look at their signature to see if you can help them. The sig will sometimes read “Let me help you make $$$$’s each day with my really simple plan.” This is what makes me laugh, do they not realise what they have just done?
Not only have they just totally devalued their own product, worse they have just made people lose any faith they might have had in their product.
I’m not one of those people that tell people to “Fake it ’till you make it”, there is nothing wrong with letting people have the facts. So long as your product contains information that will genuinely help people there are lots of things that you can do to get it out there.
Think about what kind of person you are and where you want to go. You can see more about this in this post here. Are you planning your long term business goals and working out how you want to get there? Or, are you like me and spending too much time reading about these things and not enough time on the DOING of your plan?
“Fail to plan and you plan to fail”
Are you spending too much time reading forums?
‘Pretending’ that you are researching but really surfing?
Chatting on MSN to others about what you are doing?
Reading sales pages of the next ‘must have’ product?
Reading that product after you got sucked into parting with your cash – AGAIN!
All of these and many more will ALL contribute to why you are not making money online yet. The same goes for flitting from one project to the next without finishing the last one. Anyone can have a hard drive full of half completed projects – Make sure that you are the one with a finished project, more importantly a project that you are selling. Even if it’s a lens promoting an affiliate product make sure you take it as seriously as you would your own product.
It’s these half hearted attempts that are ruining internet marketing as a whole. Products that are just “I think this will happen” or “I had this idea and ….” are taking value out of products that really deliver value to people.
The same has to be said for some of the Squidoo lenses that I see. I can’t tell you the amount of times that I have been asked to look at some one’s lens only to find that it is full of content that isn’t relevant to what the reader was looking for or was a hard sales pitch to a product.
These are the people that are making half hearted attempts to become successful. They are the same people that continue to do what they have always done and yet they continue to wonder why they are still getting the same results that they have always got.
Over the six years that I have been online, there were plenty of times that I wanted to throw the towel in and quit. Sometimes I would walk away for a few days and then come rushing back with more passion and effort than before. It was learning from what I did wrong that got me to where I am today.
OK, so I might not be a millionaire or a Guru but I love what I do and love to help others to get to where they want to be – the only thing that I want in return is your desire to WANT to change. More than that, you have to be prepared to change and put in the work. Not hard work – but work all the same.
If you know where you want to be work out how you are going to get there. Always plan tomorrow today and DO what you set out to do. Start with small goals, even if it’s as small as earning $5 per day online and work your way up. When you reach that goal it will be a great feeling – one that you will want to repeat over and over.
Start taking action today.
