Whilst I have been busy over the last few days getting my Free Marketing Course updated and answering questions, I have not forgotten about those of you who are looking for more specific methods to promote your blog/lens or sites.
Today I want to look at how powerful link building can be for anyone starting out, I’ll even throw in a few top link building tips for people who want to take something away with them today that they can actually put to use.
I hope that my title has caused you to wonder if YOU should be working towards building links to your own blog, Squidoo lenses or website. It IS important and something that a lot of us (including me) put on a virtual pile of ‘to do’ things – something that gets left behind.
New blogs (like this one) need to start building links to their site early on as it can make all the difference between getting listed in the search engines and being left out in the cold. This is something that you should start doing today. After all, you want to be found don’t you? 🙂
For those of you who are just starting out, it can all seem a little daunting, all this building links, creating content and basically bending over backwards to try and get some traffic flowing through your site. Guess what …. It does take some time and it does require some work. Yes, there are easy short cuts that you can take, but why not do the work in the beginning so that later down the line you are in a position to sit back and reap the rewards?
When you create your content on either a Squidoo lens or blog, you need to make sure that you are targeting the people who would WANT to read it. Why waste your time trying to get people to your site when you and the visitor have nothing in common? You word your articles so that they are compelling, interesting and above all else – helpful!
You researched what keywords your visitors will be using to get the information that they need and your articles tick all the right boxes. Now all you need is for the search engines to come along and index you so that you show up for those searched terms. Sounds easy? Do you know how many people are NEVER listed in the search engines? A lot!
We talk about wanting to be listed in Google for some fairly competitive keywords and one of the best ways of actually going out there and making it happen is to start building links to your blog or lens. The way Google looks at things (to the best of anyone’s knowledge) is to see who is linking to a site, after all, if someone else thinks your site is good enough to link to, Google will take that as a good thing and let others start to find you too.
I know that I have made it sound quite hard work to do, but in all honesty it’s not that hard. There are lots of things that you can do to start getting your blog or lens some attention from Google.
Tomorrow I’ll post my top 7 ways to get backlinks to your lens or blog.
For those of you who want to take something today with you, make sure that you have your Squidoo account handy and go and log in.
Google loves Squidoo and a lot of people see some pretty spectacular traffic just from Squidoo alone. Linking your blog to your Squidoo lens is just one of the ways that makes Google start to take notice of you. Make sure that you create a lens exactly the same way you would your blog. Think about why people would want to find you. What those people are looking for and how you can help them. Place two or three links to your blog throughout your lens and the same from your blog to your Squidoo lens.
Now that’s pretty easy isn’t it?
