A Heartbreaking Story That You Can Help With

*****Latest News …*****

Firstly I would like to thank everyone who was involved with the Christmas appeal that we ran – the money we raised really did change lives!  Not only did we reach our target of $1,000 we busted through it and actually raised $1,212.87!

Over the holiday period I spent a lot of time with my own family but also with the family we all helped and I can tell you that I have been seriously busy with ways in which we can continue to help those who need it the most.  Not only have I signed myself up to do a few hours work per week as a volunteer at our local hospital I have also been working on more offers that will be put towards ‘family appeal’.

The whole point is that we managed to make such a difference to one families life that there is no reason that we can’t do it again and help other families that are out there.  I’m going to leave this page up for a while longer, but I am working on a new site that will keep it seperate from this one – I am aware that not everyone will want to stay involved and that is fine.

I also know that there are lots of us out there that do want to keep helping where we can – I also need to still run my business so being able to offer something of use to my readers which I can turn into help for families is fantastic.

Each month I’ll make a new offer and this is January’s ….

At this time of the year we’re all getting ready to spend the holidays with our families and loved ones.  I think that this year most people have found it tough going, especially financially and Christmas has made things even harder.

Each and every year I leave things until the last minute and then spend the last few days stressed out and worried.  By the time Christmas day is upon us I am so worn out that I’m just pleased to see the back of it.  I guess something that nearly all of us can relate to in some way or another.

This year though things are different in our household.  We’ve had a tough year and I’ve touched on it a few times here on the blog and in some of my messages.  Things took a turn for the worst back in October though that has totally changed things for us – my mum had a massive bleed on the brain and ended up in intensive care on a ventilator for more than eight weeks.  No one thought that she would make the first night let alone ever wake up again.

As the weeks went on the doctors told us that the damage sustained during the bleed would be considerable and that IF she woke up she would be brain damaged to the point where she would be unable to care for herself.

After nine weeks my mum woke and is today breathing by herself.  She not only battled through the initial bleed, she has undergone EIGHT separate operations on her brain to drain fluid off and insert drains into the skull, she has fought off an infection, collapsed lung and pneumonia.

Before this happened my mum was the sole carer for my Granddad and also helped my sister who struggles with life a little.  Each of us has all been affected in one way or the other by this turn of events.  We’ve all pulled together and have tried to help each other as best we can and along the way our family has got stronger and stronger.

Whilst we have spent the days and weeks at the hospital we came to meet some lovely people who all seem to have just as tragic (if not worse) stories to tell, many of whom are young children and whilst my family struggles to come to terms with the changes that are now upon us, these children will be spending Christmas day in hospital –  for many it will be their last.

Some of these children have lost everything and are fighting to survive without the help of family members by their sides.  No one comes to see them because no one is left.  The struggle that these families face on a daily basis, sometimes just of finding the money to travel to and from the hospital can leave them traumatised – imagine not finding enough money to visit your child?  These are not stories of third world countries that are ravaged by war and famine – this is the UK where we have free health care, a benefits system and systems in place to help those in need yet it is failing dramatically.

These stories are not unique, they are happening around the world and to people we know.  I want to help them and I want you to help where you can too.

The children have affected me to such a level and added to the changes that we are coping with now, that I have decided to run a special holiday offer that I hope you will all join in with.  Even if you can only afford to donate a few dollars – your donation will help children who need it the most.

One family has stood out to me.  A young woman with three small children aged 11, 8 and 4 was left widowed last year when her husband suddenly passed away.  This year she has been told that her 4 year old daughter will never fully recover from meningitis and now has serious brain damage.  This lady has battled to keep the three children together often going hungry for long periods of time herself to make sure that she has enough money to get to the hospital at least once a day.  Her daughter is at a specialist hospital more than 35 miles from her home – she makes the journey each day and her two other children are always by her side too.

They are planning to take that little girl home but the improvements that must be carried out to her home to make sure that she can live comfortably are costly – she needs more than $1200 just to get her downstairs room converted for her daughter to sleep in with a specialist bed and mattress that alerts her if she stops breathing and also moves her to stop pressure sores etc.

Lots of the alterations have already been done, there is a wet room ready to be used.  There is a fantastic chair that can be used to get the little girl around in that carries her oxygen bottle with her along with her feeding tubes and equipment.

There is no Christmas tree in their home, no presents under the tree for any of the children and none of them complain!  All they are happy about is the fact that their sister is alive.

I’ve donated $200 so we need to raise $1,000 if we can – please, if you have a few dollars in your Paypal account then please, please send them this way so that we can help this family have the best possible home coming for their little angel!

If we can raise more than $1,000 then we’ll buy some toys that can be donated to our local  children’s hospital for the children who cannot make it home for Christmas this year too.

I’m going to try and make this even easier for you too – If you donate, let me know by emailing me with your Paypal email address and I’ll send you one of my products for helping out.

You can choose between Report Formula, Simple Profit Formula, Squidoo Queen or Simple Offline Profits if you donate more than $5 – that means that you get a business in a box for just $5!

That has got to be worth it!

If you donate a few dollars then send me your email address too because I have a nice selection of PLR articles and I’ll even let you have access to these great WordPress Tutorials here that I’ll send your way just to say thank you!

Please, please help this family – not once have I heard them complain and never have I been more moved in my life than watching the journey that they have been on.

Have a very peaceful holiday this year and thank you for taking the time to read this.

 ***Update***

I would like to say just how moved I have been by the messages of support, donations and offers of help that I have been sent.  Not only does it warm my heart to think that strangers will come together and give in times of need, it also shows me that there are people going through their own personal struggles everyday – most of the time we are totally unaware of it!  (Next time someone seems a little short with us or doesn’t give us the attention we want, we should all be mindful of that!)

The donations now stand at ….

$621.90

That includes my donation so we’re half way there!

This morning I spoke with the family who were totally blown away by what was happening – there was almost a full eight minutes where no one spoke, it was so moving to hear how this is going to change their lives.

Last night the little girl took a turn and was taken back into intensive care with an infection – the staff there are just amazing and the infection has been found and the correct treatment was given – they are hoping to move her back to the high dependence unit later today!  This girl is a little fighter for sure.

‘Mum’ has told me that she will try and get only over the next day or so to send an email that I can put on here for her to share her thanks with you guys for what you have done.  I’ve told her not to worry and that we all understand how briefly she is home these days.

The more I spend time talking with this family, the more in awe I become.  I find it almost impossible to even imagine just what they are going through, the other children are still young at 11 and 8 and yet they have no problem sitting for long periods of time waiting for news on their little sister – all the while not really understanding.  They do their best to support their mother and their mother trys to help them through as best she can – all whilst trying not to fall apart herself!

I find it hard that no one comes to stay with her, no family are there supporting her – she does this alone as her only brother lives in Australia.  Her husbands side of the family are still too consumed with his sudden death and are quite old and frail themselves.

The very thought of going through the last few months on my own makes me wonder if I would have got through it – I know I would have struggled and complained all the way.  I would have felt very sorry for myself at times and wanted to blame the world – this family have accepted everything with such dignaty and strength it blows me away!

Please, if you are able to help today, even just a dollar, please do.

I’m going to try and make this even easier for you too – If you donate, let me know by emailing me with your Paypal email address and I’ll send you one of my products for helping out.

***UPDATE***

The emails and messages that I have got over the last few days have been so inspiring and moving – you are all so giving and are acting with kindness that I never thought virtual strangers could act with.

I just wanted to let you know that the little girl was moved back to the high dependency unit this morning and she’s doing really well again.  It’s a long road ahead but all things considered, she’s heading in the right direction.

The fund stands at …..

$973.22

That is AMAZING!

Please take this as a personal ‘thank you’ to those who have donated and taken the  time to share your own stories with me.  I honestly am so moved by everyone.

For those of you who were asking, my own mum is making progress and has been sat up on the side of her bed today – this is just mind-blowing considering we never thought she would wake up!  The doctors want to put in a permenant drain from her head to her stomach because the one she has now keeps blocking (directly into her skull) and causing her to have further operations.  The really great news is that although she has the ventilator hooked up through a trachiotomy (hole in her throat) she is breathing by herself, it’s now just there to take over if needed!

At 5pm tomorrow (UK time) I am going to stop the fund and give the money over to the family so PLEASE, if you have been waiting before you send your donation – do it now!

Not only will you be helping this family, you also get the chance to get your hands on one of my products as a thank you gift.  Every little helps and if you think that you only have a dollar to send – please do it.  It really does add up and help.

My mom had the same brain injury in 1971. She had to relearn to walk and talk, and relearn who her family was, but she was strong and committed and did all that. Today, she is healthy and happy, and plans to work until she drops. At 71, she still works at the front counter of a dry cleaning establishment, and loves her job. There were days when we thought she wouldn’t make it. There were months when we didn’t know if she would ever be the same mom again. She wasn’t ever quite the same. Few people are after such a life altering event, but she survived and thrived. Your care for her will make a big difference in her recovery. God bless you and your family at this time. I will keep you in my prayers.

I don’t have much to donate, but I will send a little.

Hi Kelly—I just donated again in hopes that you are able to reach your goal today. My husband just came home and told me how he wrote a surprise check to young woman who works at the minimart who is heading off to college after the new year. Money is tight and she is nervous so he handed her a check saying he knows how hard it is money-wise to pay college expenses. The young woman started crying and crying because nobody outside her family had ever done something like that for her. When he told me of his good deed I figured I could donate a little more here.

I can only imagine how this mother with the sick child is feeling to have perfect strangers from all over the world willing to contribute what they can so she can bring her child home.

Merry Christmas to her and her children, Merry Christmas to Angel Kelly–happy to hear you mother is doing well.

“Tis The Season…..” should never be taken for granted….Ellie

Dear Kelly, I’ve decided to make a donation of $20 to help you with your cause. Dispite my own struggles and being unemployed for more than 2 yrs. I scratch up $20 to help your cause and support those who are in indeed in need at this time of the year.
I don’t know why, but I guess it’s that doing good once in a while thing that everyone does once in a while. I don’t know if Santa is watching this or not, but if he is He should be pleased that I’ve done my part to help others out in their time off need. Dispit that my birthday is on that day, (Hint),? Other than that I wish the mother of three best of luck and hope that this money donated gets to them and help them in their need.

    Kelly,
Sorry to hear about your mum and the families you speak of. If they were here in the states, I’m sure we could get some contractors to go and give some free labor and materials for the family you speak of. Instead I am donating to your cause. Good luck to you and yours and hope your mum recovers soon.

    Take care,
    Larry
